Rug

So my latest acquisition is this rug. It’s the Loon Peak Ovid orange area rug, AKA the Abacasa Sonoma Myan Rug. I’d link to it, but the price is constantly fluctuating. I got it for the best price today at Joss & Main, but that might not be the case tomorrow.

So my original plan was to put it in the living room, but there’s a lot more floor space/need for warmth in the dining room, so perhaps that would be the wiser choice. Although the dining room has a HUGE blank wall that needs a large pieces of art on it, which might compete with the rug for attention? Apparently the colors of the rug are more muted in person [source]

So, we’ve moved in!

Closing was an absolutely nightmare (I’ll spare you the details) but after the closing was completed, the rest of the moving went fairly smoothly. We still don’t have trash service (again, I’ll spare you) so the basement is starting to look like an episode of Hoarders, but hopefully that will be rectified tomorrow.

I have worked really hard Saturday, Sunday and today to get everything as far along as possible and I’m happy to say I’m about 90% unpacked. I have art up on a few walls, even if it isn’t going to stay there forever. I am even completely finished with the living room (although I want to add a rug at some point):

We’re still dealing with a temporary fridge (the one we ordered is on backorder) so I will probably hold off on posting any more pictures until that situation is taken care of, but until then, here’s the living room, complete with adorable napping puppy!

Lazy guest room purchase

I figured it would be easiest to get a queen bed for the guest room so that we can just swap sheets and bedding between the guest room and the master.

This is the coverlet I ended up choosing. It’s the Threshold “Raw Edge” Quilt in white [link] which I got on a really good sale at Target ($49 down from $70).

I was worried that it looked more cream than white, but I peeked into the package when it came and it seems nice and white.

Weekend projects

I haven’t yet moved; but that doesn’t meant I can’t tackle a few projects!

Assembled this Ovoid side table from Capsule [link]

Pardon the upholstery on the chair-and-a-half. It’s super comfortable, so I don’t care.

And I replaced the old drawer pulls in my childhood dresser with these simple stainless bar pulls. They had sets of 6 at Home Depot for less than $13. The old drawer pulls (pictured at the bottom) fell apart during my last move and weren’t really functional any more. The dresser desperately needs a fresh coat of paint, but that’s another project for another day.

Floor plan

I’ve been noodling around with what I want the floor plan to look like and here’s where I am so far. (The first floor is on the left, the second floor on the right.)

I’m also seriously considering using the middle bedroom as a guest room, although I don’t see much point in getting anything other than a queen sized bed because then I don’t have to get any special bedding, but there two options for bed placement are pretty tight. Where I have it in the above plan, and in the bottom left corner, neither of which really leaves room for a night stand.

Inspection

I spent a few hours at The New (Old) House yesterday while the inspections were going on. The old girl passed with flying colors. The sewer inspector said it’s the best he’s seen all year. The home inspector was generally flummoxed to find nothing to report. All in all, I think the quality of the remodel is stellar, and I’m very excited to have no hiccups in the process!

Floor Plan

I am still working on the look and logo for this site. Going slowly as the boyfriend has been working late and is therefore still sleeping so I’m trying to be quiet!

I wanted to add this floor plan of the first and second floors of the house. It isn’t the biggest thing in the world, but it’ll be the biggest house I’ve ever lived in. Two and a half baths is nice, plus we have a third bedroom which I still have no idea what I’m going to put in. I’ve never had a second floor before, either.

The room listed as the Master Bedroom won’t work for the furniture arrangement that I have in mind, so that will most likely be the office/music room. The master will be the front bedroom. It’s the one with hardwood floors. The other two have carpeting.

I bought the appliances still needed yesterday as well. Went with a black GE counter-depth refrigerator to match the rest of the black GE appliances in the kitchen. Also got a great deal on a Samsung front-load washer and dryer set on closeout. Very excited to have everything delivered the day after closing.

The Couch Shopping Saga continues. It’s bad enough that I’ve applied for a part time job at Crate & Barrel to get an employee discount!
